It's Black History Month and that means time to reflect on history and celebrate achievements, but also to implement change moving forward. If you're wondering what you can do to show your support for African American communities, we've got just the thing.
Through our portal, you can donate just $5.00 to any of three different charities that support Black communities and get 5% off of your Myprotein order.
NAACP
The first charity we've partnered with is the NAACP- The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The NAACP is the oldest standing Civil Rights organization in the US, founded in 1909. Today, it is the largest and most widely-recognized organization fighting for Black rights. The NAACP is committed to creating positive change in crucial areas such as criminal justice, health care, education, climate, and the economy. The NAACP boasts over 2 million activists with the goal of ending racial inequality. From fighting for clean water in Mississippi to mobilizing voters, the NAACP is taking action and supporting Black rights across the country.
ACLU
The second charity on the list, the American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU, began in 1920 to defend people's constitutional rights and today fights for causes such as abortion care, trans rights, and the right to vote. The ACLU has been active in court cases that changed history for over 100 years now, participating in more Supreme Court cases than any other private organization. With 54 offices around the US, The ACLU is working with attorneys and activists all over the country to shape policy and spread awareness surrounding Civil Rights issues.
Athletes United for Social Justice
Last but certainly not least, the Athletes United for Social Justice, also known as The Grass Root Project, is a unique initiative based in Washington, DC. The organization utilizes the power of athletes to combat pressing health issues and educate local middle school youth; the program recruits NCAA Division 1 athletes to become health educators and coaches for kids. The athletes go through training and are then partnered with PE programs in Washington DC schools. By promoting sports-based disease prevention, teaching life skills, and initiating student-athlete leadership development, Athletes United for Social Justice is working to build community, spread social empowerment, and provide resources to local youth to make cities healthier.
