At Myprotein US, we're dedicating this month to mental health awareness.

We'll be highlighting our ambassadors' experiences with mental health issues in hopes it promotes a healthy dialogue in our community in addition to dishing out simples steps to follow for reducing stress and anxiety.

One thing that has helped members of our community is meditation or more specifically, Mindfulness.

Here, Myprotein ambassador and public health expert, Max Oldani explains what mindfulness is and how it may be able to help you. Enjoy.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.

It's a therapeutic technique commonly used in combination with yoga or meditation.

As Max puts it, mindfulness is "the basic human ability to be fully present to this moment. To be aware of what we're doing, what we're thinking, how we're feeling and to not overreact to certain situations that may be happening to us or within us."

Practicing mindfulness takes some getting used to but it can be very relieving and meditative if done properly.

How Can Mindful Meditation Help You?

While the acute effects of mindfulness may be relieving, Max lets us know that Mindfulness is not a cure to mental health issues but it may help an individual address them better.

It won't "get rid of our negative thoughts or negative emotions...it's simply helps us become more aware to how we react to things...so we can react more empathetically and more calmly."

In this way, it's about awareness and learning more about yourself. In doing so, you may be able to react to stress or difficult situations more easily in the future.
