Healthy Office Snacks | Low Calorie Treats

We all know that when we want to try out a new diet, one of the hardest parts that we come across with regards to sticking to a proper diet is fixing our snacking habits. Although many people strongly believe that snacks have to be eliminated from a diet, this is not the case. If you can be smarter about your food choices you won’t have to ever worry about your snacks having a negative impact on your progress and results.

If you want to have healthy snacks to help keep you on track for remaining lean and still satisfying your cravings, it’s important to ensure your food choices are high in protein content to help boost your metabolism as well as taking longer in digestion to help you remain full.

Almonds

Although almonds are one of the most known dieting snacks, it’s important to see why. 1 ounce of almonds is about enough to fill your handful or a small snack container. Almonds are high in protein and healthy fats, while also containing a large amount of vitamin E, which is an antioxidant. Almonds also help regulate blood sugar levels due to the high levels of magnesium they contain.

Apples

Although apples are usually seen as a healthy food choice because they are simply a fruit, the reason why apples are a big part of many peoples diets is in part of the fact that an apple can contain around 5g of fiber to help keep you feeling full. Apples are also over 80% water which is why you usually feel full after consuming an apple. Snack on 1-2 apples a day and I promise they will satisfy any cravings you might have.

Popcorn

Usually, when people think of popcorn they never see it as healthy. I recommend all natural air-popped popcorn, and if you want some added flavor, sprinkle a tiny bit of olive oil on it and shake it up. Avoid the butter and salt as much as possible.

If you prefer a cold snack, switch for some cold vegetables such as carrots and celery. I know its hard to eat them sometimes without some ranch dressing but if you can avoid the dressing as much as possible, this can be one of the healthiest and filling snacks you can eat to help keep you from eating unnecessary foods you cannot have on your diet.

Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is great for weight loss because it contains a high amount of protein, vitamins and healthy fats. Cottage cheese also contains many minerals such as calcium, zinc and potassium to help with many body functions. Try and find fat free or low fat cottage cheese and in a small 100g serving you can have around 11g of protein or more. Add cottage cheese to a small green salad to help increase flavor and protein content while helping you remain full and satisfied for a few hours until your next meal.

Tuna

Tuna is one of the best snacks you can have because the benefits are very high from having the ability to help reduce cardiovascular issues, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, and even boosting the immune system. Tuna is also a pure protein source so the carbs and fat will not be there, and any fat that can be found will be a healthy and essential fatty acid known as Omega-3 fatty acids. If you do not like the taste of tuna, try adding some hot sauce to it for some added flavor while still avoiding the sugars from bbq and other sauces like ketchup.

Although these are just a few, these are some of the best and easiest snacks anyone can keep in the office, at work, on the go, at school, etc. With the only one having to remain refrigerated being cottage cheese, there is no reason why you cannot carry any of the other snacks with you at all times regardless of where you are or where you might be going. Adding snacks such as these listed to your everyday diet to help keep you away from purchasing fast food or candy from a vending machine can be the best thing for anyone on a diet who is in competition prep or simply trying to lean out for whatever reason they have.
