Casein & Milk Protein

3 results

Our wide range of milk and casein proteins is designed with the best ingredients available in the market. Milk proteins have a high biological value, meaning they are an excellent protein source for anyone wanting to build muscle.

Milk is made up of 20% whey protein and 80%casein.

What is Casein?

Casein is the major protein found in milk and it's best known for its slow absorption rate (*1).

Casein, when consumed, clots when exposed to the acids in the stomach. This process forms large globules of protein that empty the stomach much slower than other protein sources, such as whey or egg protein. Because of this, casein powders provide a sustained release of amino acids to the bloodstream.

Milk and Casein proteins benefits

Research has shown that, when it comes to muscle building, proteins derived from milk are superior to vegetable sources of protein, such as soy and pea (*2).

While milk and casein proteins are effective in promoting muscle protein synthesis, its main advantage is the ability to provide a tapered release of amino acids into the bloodstream, as opposed to whey (*3). This can be especially useful for preventing muscle catabolism during long periods without food.

Casein may be more beneficial for those looking to feed the body during a long period of time. That's why casein is touted as the ideal protein to take before bedtime. Casein's prolonged digestion helps promote a positive nitrogen balance during the long hours of sleep (*4).

When to take Milk and Casein proteins?

Milk and Casein proteins can be virtually taken at any time of the day. However, it is especially useful during sleep.

Casein protein can also be combined with whey to enhance anabolic response. Combining protein sources with different absorption rates will provide a more prolonged release of amino acids into the bloodstream and so boost muscle protein synthesis (*5).
