Persistence, Consistency & Perfection… What’s The REAL Key To Success?

When it comes to working your hardest, persistence, consistency, and striving for perfection are three things that all bring success and are all important traits to have when working for your goals. To reach your goals, you can’t give up on them. This is persistence.

Key To Success 1: Persistence

While it sounds quite obvious, it’s, unfortunately, easier said than done for most; there’s a reason why we only have so few astronauts, baseball players, and presidents. The astronauts, baseball players, and presidents of this world are the men and women that ignored the voice in their head when it told them to give up because the times got tough. These people are the ones that faced every obstacle in their path and said, “No!”

There will be times on the journey to reaching your goals where your subconscious mind will tell you to give up because it’s not comfortable with going to the next level. But to win, you have to say no. To win, you have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. You make the most progress when you’re fighting for your goals with all your will.

If you want to make a change, you have to do new things and always strive to do better than yesterday. You can’t be scared to lift heavier weights or do more sets – instead, you just have to get comfortable doing bigger things. You need to be determined that you can do it, and once you see yourself winning, life will lead you to the end goals.

Once you truly believe that you will reach your goals, you will be able to conquer every obstacle that does to get in your way. All of this is persistence, and it’s the key to being a winner. Winners never quit and quitters never win. Winners are persistent.

Key To Success: Consistency

Another important trait, and one that goes hand-in-hand with persistence, is consistency. Consistency is driven by love for the sport and also by desire. If you want to be good at something you need to practice doing it, hence the phrase, “Practice makes perfect.”

In fitness and nutrition, consistency is what makes the difference between those who see results and those who don’t. For example, if you were only hitting the gym once a month and you’re varying your calories on a day-to-day basis, you won’t move forward. Your lifts will stay where they are and you won’t be working your muscles hard enough to cause them to grow. If your nutrition isn’t consistent, you might lose half a pound one day, but gain it right back the next, causing you to inevitably stay in the same place.

The key to changing your body lies in adaptation. To lose fat or gain muscle, you must convince your body into thinking that its current state isn’t optimal for the environment it is currently in. By successfully doing this, your body will start to change to better suit the environment it’s constantly in and you will see progress.

Key To Success: Striving For Perfection

Making any change is dependent on being consistent with your efforts and cannot be made without giving your best at all times. One key to success that some people often deny is striving for perfection. People will say that you shouldn’t expect yourself to be perfect because you will ultimately be disappointed, but I disagree.

key to success

To be successful, you have to see yourself being successful. Instead of saying you won’t be perfect so why bother trying, you should always strive for perfection and always put 110% into getting things done perfectly, whether it’s your lifting form, daily macros, or anything else in life. You shouldn’t keep doing things you can do perfectly, however, as that goes back to being persistent.

If you’re so comfortable with something that you can do it perfectly, it’s too easy. To make serious change, you have to be doing things where perfection is a goal, but not something you can achieve easily.

Take-Home Message

When it comes to being both persistent and consistent, or striving for perfection, the answer is not one or the other, but both. Each trait is important for its own reasons and success will come from a combination of the three. Instead of choosing one side over the other, you should aim to possess all three of the traits together if you want to be successful and achieve your goal.
