There are so many different ways to get a workout in now, and some ways are a lot more popular than others. Kettlebells are one of the most popular ways to workout in today’s fitness world, and the list of benefits from kettlebell training is so long that I could probably write a 5000 page article about it, but I will just go over the more popular and relevant benefits.
No More Boring Cardio!
Yes, the dreaded cardio that no one EVER wants to do. Who wants to spend several minutes doing cardio that seems like it takes hours? Probably 1 out of 100 people! Well, kettlebells will fix that. Most kettlebell workouts are not using just one muscle, but several of them. When you are doing whole body movements while holding a weighted kettlebell, several calories are burned, and a lot more than just one muscle is being used to create that movement. Kettlebell workouts also get your heart rate up pretty high due to the intense nature of the movements. Basically, supersetting kettlebell workouts, or doing several of them in one workout, will burn just as much if not MORE calories than the dreaded treadmill.
Kettlebells offer the ability to gain functional strength without having to go through isolated reps for each muscle group. Functional strength means to be able to perform daily activities, or habits in a way that requires less struggle, and less stress on the body. Functional strength is so important in today’s world, especially for older people. Kettlebells will give you functional strength without having to go through the monotony of working out each muscle group in isolation, which takes a lot more time and effort.
Compared to cardio, kettlebells are never boring. There are so many known movements and exercises with kettlebells, that you will never run out of ideas. They are so versatile, and come in many different weights, so that you can be able to even create your own workouts if you wanted! From full body exercises, to isolation movements, the kettlebell will not disappoint. Being a personal trainer, I personally put my clients through at least a few kettlebell workouts a week just to show them how much they can really kick your butt compared to regular, boring cardio that no one EVER wants to do!
Compact and Portable
Just like resistance bands, kettlebells can be taken on the go for the traveling businessman, or someone on vacation. Just make sure sure to not try and pack a 20kg kettlebell in your suitcase, or you might find yourself getting a workout in just carrying your luggage! Being just a ball with a handle, you can pretty much fit them anywhere. Compared to resistance bands though, kettlebells offer a bigger variety of exercises, full body exercises, and is an actual weight unlike resistance bands which only use resistance and are very limited on the workout selection. Just the average Joe can carry a kettlebell around with them on the go, for functional strength purposes.
Kettlebells have gotten very popular due to the fact that they have SEVERAL advantages to them. I went over the main ones, but some other notable benefits include: fun for any age, combines cardio and strength training, more fat loss, different from barbells and dumbbells, enjoyable, saves money, and they are very easy to learn how to use. In today’s busy world, there will always be new ways to working out on a busy schedule, but as far as benefits go, you cannot beat the kettlebell. The list goes on and on and on. The workouts are very easy to learn, and you end up burning more calories than regular cardio! So pick up a kettlebell and try one in today’s workout.
