5 Summer Sports You Must Try

One of the most exciting seasons of the year is upon us – the summer. Sun is out, the weather allows you to rock those new shorts and a tank top you got for Christmas and you can generally do two things at once by exercising outside. First, outdoor workouts and activities can bring a bit of variety to your fitness life inside of the gym. Second, you might as well get a tan while doing so! Let’s give you some ideas of sports, activities, or just “staying-in-shape” stuff you can do outside to enjoy a few sun rays and fresh air while burning some calories and staying lean!




This may be the obvious one but getting into a habit of running on a regular basis is an amazing way to stay fit even if you have to skip a gym session or two. Jogging can be very relaxing as well as a challenging exercise. Many choose to run right after waking up, some people like to go for a jog before heading to bed, and there is definitely nothing wrong with going for a run right after coming from work or school either. You do not need any equipment besides a pair of sneakers and you can jog literally anywhere. Jogging is definitely an amazing way to take advantage of the weather, listen to some tunes, see around, and burn some calories at the same time – great deal!




If you are a spinning enthusiast during the winter months or if you just enjoy riding a bike and cycling, now is the best time to get your bike nice and shiny and hit the road! There is a reason why professional cyclists have such strong legs and are usually in a good shape! Cycling will challenge your lower body comparably to a nice leg day at the gym. A face paced cycling trip through some hills or on roads with some changes in elevation can be a surprisingly hard type of outdoor exercise. Going for bike rides is a must this summer!

Beach volleyball


Get together a group of friends or colleagues from work and play some beach volleyball. Many places have a sand volleyball court that you can play at and make a little fun tournament over the weekend! Beach volleyball is great because you can play in a variety of teams anywhere from 2 to 5 people so it’s fairly easy to get together some people and play! This is definitely one of my favorite summer activities that are really fun and provide a competitive opportunity for teams of any size.




If you have an access to the beach and know how to surf you should definitely take advantage of the opportunity. If you don’t know how to surf but “do something new” was on your new year’s resolutions list, take some surfing classes and hit the beach during summer! Surfing can take some getting used to and learning the correct posture and balance, but once you get it, it is so rewarding! You will be surprised how much time flies when you start catching good waves and getting a hang of it. An advantage of going surfing is that if you need some rest on the beach, you can get an amazing tan and relax with the sound of waves in the background. It can’t get much better than that!




You would be amazed at how much exercise you can cram inside of a brisk hiking session. You always have several options how to approach a hiking trip to mountains or a nearby trail to waterfalls and such. You can either try to set a certain pace that will challenge you along the way and try to stick to it, get a good sweat going and consider it a fun and challenging exercise for yourself or with a group of friends who want to join up. Or you can simply make the hiking a slower pace, seeing the nature around kind of thing without missing out on the fun and enjoyment. Either way, a nice 3 to 5-mile trail can be a great outdoor activity that you should definitely try!
Note: Hiking trips make an incredible opportunity to have some fun and active trip together with your family!

Hot summer days and nice cooling breeze in the afternoons are both great indicators of getting outside and enjoying the outdoor fun activities while the weather allows you to do so. There is no need to completely replace your current gym regimen for just staying outdoors but it definitely is a nice change after hours of hard work and iron lifting inside of your gym and running on a treadmill! Go get yourself a tan while staying in shape and enjoying the beauty of nature and nice weather at the same time because summer will be over before you know it!
