Is Diet Soda Worse Than Regular Soda?
There is a lot of conflicting information published regarding diet soda. You will read one article claiming ‘diet sodas have a huge impact on weight gain’ and the next day another article from some other non-certified source stating ‘diet sodas play no role in the increase or loss of weight in the human body’. The health issues that are related to diet soda today are pretty much entirely down to false studies and claims.
Diet sodas are lower in calories and sugars when compared to regular sodas and are often filled with added vitamins and minerals to help the flavor and taste. Normally people make the switch to diet soda over regular soda to avoid the consumption of large amounts of caffeine and to avoid the high calories and sugar contained within the drink.
Diet soda is filled with sweeteners including, aspartame, sucralose and saccharin . These ingredients are also found in other products, such as fruit juice, gum, yogurt and some candies. Many people claim that aspartame is harmful to the body, which it is, but only in very large amounts.
If someone exceeds over 40 mg per kilogram of bodyweight a day, they may be at risk of exceeding the recommended daily intake set by the FDA. However, in order to consume this much aspartame, one would have to drink the equivalent of around 15 cans or more of diet soda per day.
Is Diet Soda Healthy?
Diet soda, just like every other product made for consumers, is actually 100% healthy and safe to consume as long as it’s in moderation. 90% of most food products from meat, candy, grain products, etc., will become unhealthy and lead to a risk of weight gain if consumed in large amounts on a regular basis.
I personally believe that diet soda can actually be beneficial to someone on a diet, as it can satisfy your sweet tooth and hunger cravings, stopping you from snacking on unhealthy, high calorie options. There is simply no strong, conclusive evidence that proves that diet soda is bad for your health. When you look at the ingredients of what diet soda is made of and what those ingredients can do to the body, diet sodas are just as ‘healthy’ as fruit juice drinks like apple and orange juice.
Diet Soda Benefits
Does diet soda provide any benefit to consumers? Well it is certainly a better idea to opt for a diet soda over a regular soda if you can’t resist having one. If you’re struggling to lose weight and are dieting then, in my opinion, a can of diet soda a day can help to satisfy your cravings and prevent unhealthy snacking.
Overall though, it is much more beneficial to drink water if you have the choice than opting for soda. You should be aiming to drink at least half a gallon of water a day. The best way to do this is to buy a 1/2 Gallon Hydrator. Fill it with water at the beginning of the day and make sure it is empty at the end!
Diet Soda Alternatives
There are a lot of people who simply don’t like water, and if this is you, then it may be the key reason why you’ve been turning to diet soda to quench your thirst. Why not try adding BCAAs to water and sipping on this instead. Not only will this be more cost effective, but you will also be helping to maintain muscle mass by increasing protein synthesis.

Would I recommend diet soda to anyone? If you drink normal soda regularly, Id switch to diet soda. Otherwise I would simply recommend to stick to water as much as possible.
